La Cite du Vin

Did they read our minds?

Just when you thought all your prayers had been answered with news of a four-floor gin hotel opening in London, France one-ups the Brits by telling us they’re opening a 10-floor wine-based theme park.

We’re not even kidding.

Aptly named La Cité du Vin, the Bordeaux-based park has 20 areas focusing on different aspects of wine and viticulture. While there isn’t a log flume that takes you through pinot gris waterfalls (boo), there IS a simulated boat tour, which “takes you around the world” on a merchant’s galley. There’s also wine tastings (naturally), a panoramic restaurant and non-wine related activities like art galleries and a reading room. Oh, and let’s not forget the wine bar stocked with over 50 different types of wine!

Even if wine isn’t your bag (you’re kidding, right?) you will be sure to appreciate the architecture of the building, which has been designed to replicate the motion of wine swirling around a glass.

The theme park opens on 1 June and tickets cost approximately £15 per adult (that’s about NZ$32 to you and me).

Add it to your next Europe trip.
