As of today, labels Kingan Jones and RJC are relaunching under a brand new name: Staple + Cloth.

After 20 years in business, Claire Kingan-Jones, who established Kingan Jones and RJC, has sold the business to Sharyn Condon, who has worked for the company for the past seven years.

Condon knows the company extremely well. She started in a part-time role at Kingan Jones and RJC, which morphed into a full-time production role and for the past few years she has been the general manager. She’s worked in the New Zealand fashion industry for the past 15 years, largely in production and operation roles for everyone from Trelise Cooper Kids and Moochi.

The Staple + Cloth aesthetic is all about creating garments for busy women who need a wardrobe that is functional.

“I wanted to have the building blocks in the wardrobe, but I also wanted to maintain some of the feminine ethos that Kingan Jones always had.”

Staple + Cloth is located at 124 Ponsonby Road (where Kingan Jones was) as well as online, and is also stocked in a number of stores around the country.

For more on the new Staple + Cloth line, read an interview with Sharyn Condon in Fashion Quarterly’s spring issue, on sale August 25.
