Free radicals caused by UV rays are the enemy of our skin because they can cause so much damage in the form of pigmentation, loss of firmness and wrinkling. Worst of all, they can slip past your SPF protection, which is why layering an antioxidant underneath your daily sunscreen is such a good idea. “If you have a lot of UV damage or have spent a lot of time in the sun, you need to increase the amount of antioxidants in your skincare and diet,” says About Face training and technical manager Haley Schultz. “You also need a wide range of antioxidants to protect, not just one antioxidant. Resveratrol is one of the best but there are also other really effective ones such as vitamin E, idebenone and beta-carotene, which add even more benefits.”
