Michelle Obama has come out in support of Beyonce’s recent announcement she was creating a scholarship programme for young women.

The singer, who is celebrating the one year anniversary of her visual album Lemonade, revealed the exciting news on her website this week.

According to the statement, the “Formation Scholars” programme will grant four scholarships to female students “incoming, current or graduate” looking to study the disciplines of creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies in the 2017-2018 academic year.

The scholarships aim to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.”

Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College have been selected to participate in the programme.

Following the announcement, Michelle Obama tweeted out to the star late Tuesday night applauding the program, and dropping a few choice emojis in the process.

“Always inspired by your powerful contributions @Beyonce,” the former First Lady wrote. “You are a role model for us all. Thank you for investing in our girls.”

The tweet has generated a huge amount of support and has been liked more than 72,000 times.

As well as being great friends, Beyonce and the former FLOTUS are united in their advocacy for young woman’s rights to education.

In 2015, Obama launched Let Girls Learn, a global initiative which promotes access to education for young women.

Is there nothing these two couldn’t achieve if they put their heads together?!
