No matter the weather, Autumn is always a good time to get reacquainted with your wardrobe. Whether you’re looking to add a few key pieces to your wardrobe or invest in the latest trends, you’ll love dressing up or down in these versatile layering staples.

1. The dress

A button-down dress is a versatile number that can be half-buttoned and styled over suit pants, bike shorts or worn as a long open top. Look for a versatile cotton or linen blend that’s not too light or heavy, and when the climate gets a little cooler, pair over a merino turtleneck or under a heavy wool coat for added comfort.

2. The vest

Moochi 'Sequester' vest

A vest just pulls everything together, and it’s also a chance to play with textures galore — from rich velvets and chic leathers to cosy knits. Layer over a t-shirt and mini and play around with belting for the cherry on top.

3. The skirt

Put a swing in your step with a colourful mini or midi skirt in a thick corduroy or wool blend. Show a bit of skin, layer with tights, and dress up with a pair of knee-length boots — or team with crisp white sneakers for the ultimate weekend attire.

4. The boots

Kathryn Wilson 'Amelia' boot

From combat to stiletto, invest in a boot style that will freshen up your look and fortify your feet to navigate the seasonal changes with ease. A quality boot should tide you over for years to come, so choose a classic neutral over a colourful hue if in doubt.

The suit

Swap out the florals for the understated check or plaid suit set, of course in a tonal autumn palette. Not only will you feel put together, but the cohesive look goes perfectly with quality wardrobe basics, making for endless styling opportunities.

The trench coat

Would it be a trans-seasonal style edit without mentioning the trench coat? This timeless garment was originally designed with protection from the elements in mind, so you’ll be right as rain by investing in the stalwart staple.
