The Chanel designer has criticised the reality star for being “too public”.

While fans and celebrities have spoken out in support of the star’s ordeal, the famed designer has delivered a warning against overt displays of wealth.

“(She is) too public, too public — we have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth then be surprised that some people want to share it,” the designer told the Associated Press.

“I don’t understand why [Kardashian] was in a hotel with no security and things like this. If you are that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room,” he added.

The reality television star was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to reports, robbers dressed as police officers broke into the star’s room, tied her up and gagged her with duct tape, before locking her in the bathroom. Jewellery and valuables worth US $10 million ($13 million) were taken.

People reports Kim managed to wriggle free from the plastic ties around her wrists, and after escaping “screamed from the balcony” for help.

Immediately following the robbery, Karl Lagerfeld had offered kinder words to the star. He posted a photo on Instagram holding a piece of paper that read “Dearest Kim, We are all with you. Love, Karl.”

Members of the Kardashian family have broken their social media silence following the star’s ordeal, and it’s been revealed Kylie Jenner has also faced issues with security.

Concerns over personal security were raised in a recent episode of the reality television show Keeping up with the Kardashians when it was revealed that the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan had experienced problems with a stalker.

The family said they were worried about the risks the star could face by constantly letting the world know her location.

According to reports, Kim Kardashian posted on Snapchat from her hotel room just before the robbery is believed to have taken place.

Production on the E! reality television show has now been shut down and Variety reports no decision has been made as to when filming will resume.

“Kim’s well-being is our core focus right now. No decision has been made as to when production will resume,” a spokesperson for E! told Variety.
