Bring out your signs, girls!

Another major protest has been planned by the organisers of January’s epic Women’s March, with the call going out to women everywhere to get behind a general strike.

Plans for “A Day Without a Woman” were announced earlier this month, and now a date has been: March 8, which also happens to be International Women’s Day. Fitting, isn’t it?

Organisers posted the message to Instagram, calling for the strike that will be held in protest against some of the administrative policies of the current US government.

January’s Women’s March, which coincided with President Trump’s inauguration, was believed to be the biggest inaugural protest in history, with numbers exceeding those who turned up for the POTUS’ own inauguration.

The organisers behind the upcoming protest wrote: “In the spirit of women and their allies coming together for love and liberation, we offer A Day Without A Woman. We ask: Do businesses support our communities, or do they drain our communities? Do they strive for gender equity or do they support the policies and leaders that perpetuate oppression? Do they align with a sustainable environment or do they profit off destruction and steal the futures of our children?

“We saw what happened when millions of us stood together in January, and now we know that our army of love greatly outnumbers the army of fear, greed, and hatred,” they continued. “On March 8th, International Women’s Day, let’s unite again in our communities for A Day Without A Woman.”

So far there’s been a groundswell of support on social media for the planned day of action, with close to 20,000 likes since Tuesday’s announcement.

More information about how the strikes unfold will be revealed over the next few weeks and you can bet your ovaries that we’ll be taking part, too.
