5 things we loved this week

12 August 2026
By Sophie de Renzy

From Marle's first step into menswear to Josh Emett's newest restaurant, and Emma Lewisham's Reading Room, this week's edit has you covered.

1. The other half

Marle has announced its debut menswear collection, marking the New Zealand label’s first expansion beyond womenswear. Known for its natural-fibre staples, the brand launches on 20 August with men’s shirting, knitwear and relaxed separates. Cotton, merino, cashmere and silk anchor the range, cut with the same subtle pattern-cutting and French-seamed precision that defines Marle’s womenswear. “It felt natural,” says founder Juliet Souter, who focused on pieces “you return to again and again.” Expect the same sleek palette of ivory, charcoal and chocolate, with a warm red running through ready to stop you mid-scroll.

2. Read the room

Emma Lewisham is turning the page, if only for a weekend. The Reading Room, a collaboration with Lamplight Books and Blue Tāmaki, brings her special edition publication, Emma Lewisham World, to life through a curated library of the books that inspired it. The pop-up arrives on the back of recognition from Nobel Laureate Dr Peter Agre, adding to Dr Jane Goodall’s earlier acknowledgment of the brand’s sustainability leadership. Part beauty, part science, part curiosity, The Reading Room invites visitors to explore the ideas behind the brand.

Open to the public at Blue Tāmaki, Ponsonby:
Thursday 20 from 11am – 3pm
Friday 21 August 9am – 3pm
Saturday 22 August 9am – 3pm

3. Meet you at Lottie’s?

The opening of the highly-anticipated Faradays department store just got better. Josh Emett, the man behind Auckland favourites Onslow and Gilt Brasserie, is bringing his magic touch to Faradays with Lottie’s, an all day dining destination set to become the department store’s beating heart. Expect Selfridges charm with Kiwi warmth, with Zach Meads at the helm of the kitchen. Whether you’re there for a browse, a long lunch or simply the atmosphere, Lottie’s promises to be the destination everyone’s talking about when it opens this September.

4. Hot property

Waihi Beach just got its first dedicated wellness escape. Baask, a design-led sauna and ice bath house from sisters Samantha and Claudia Holley, opens this August, blending their overseas wellness know-how with local roots. Forget muted, spa-beige interiors, think nostalgic coastal hues by Whitewash Interiors, custom cedar ice baths and Clearlight infrared saunas. Every detail, from handmade ceramic lighting to tumbled brass fittings, has been considered. Sessions start at $65, positioning Baask as the reset locals and summer visitors alike will keep coming back for.

5. Miss them? There’s a flight for that

Singapore Airlines wants to deliver something better than a parcel: you. To mark 50 years of connecting New Zealand to the world, the airline has launched The New Zealanderlivery Service, giving 20 lucky Kiwis the chance to win return flights to reunite with loved ones across more than 60 destinations. Entrants simply nominate who they’d want to be “delivered” to, and why. Since 1976, Singapore Airlines has flown over eight million passengers on the Auckland-Singapore route alone. Entries close 15 August.
