From mid-century chairs to a new Auckland dining lane, FQ features editor Lucy Slight shares what’s on her radar this month.

SCENT: Arquiste candles from WORLD Beauty
“I remember when the go-to gift from guys to girls at high school was a candle. It was always something purple and plastic-looking from the 1, 2, 3 Dollar Store. Well you know what, I loved a candle then and I still love a candle now – only my taste has changed. Out with single-digits and in with triple, there’s nothing more elegant in the home than a luxurious candle. The new range of Arquiste candles from World Beauty are at the top of my list, particularly the floral burst that comes from the brand’s signature St Regis scent.”

EAT: Brickworks in New Lynn
“I’m moving to New Lynn next month and as someone who loves a good meal out, I could not be more excited for the suburb’s new dining lane, Brickworks, which includes – of course – a number of new eateries as well as a Reading cinema complex. It’s a $39 million dollar upgrade so I’m expecting big things. The first stop on my list will be Vietnamese restaurant Hansan which I used to frequent on the regular when I lived in Newmarket. You can’t beat living within walking distance of a good pho, I say.”

WANT: Freedom Furniture Wing Chair in Micro Mist, $499
“One of my favourite lying-on-the-couch hobbies at the moment is pinning to my mid-century board on Pinterest. The styling in the décor of that whole era is so simple, mutedly colourful yet undeniably quirky and right now I just can’t get enough. This Wing Chair from Freedom Furniture would be perfect for making my Pinterest board come to life in my new house. And the price can’t be beat, either.”

LISTEN: Fleetwood Mac TUSK Deluxe, $39.99
“When I saw Fleetwood Mac live for the first time last year at Madison Square Garden in New York, I cried. Just two bars in to The Chain and my skin was crawling with goosebumps, my eyes were prickling with tears and my smile was so huge my cheeks were hurting. So naturally, I didn’t hesitate to book tickets to their New Zealand leg of On With The Show when the tour was announced earlier this year. And with Fleetwood Mac releasing TUSK Deluxe, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The deluxe edition includes a remastered version of the original album featuring previously unreleased session outtakes, an additional selection of singles, demos and remixes, as well as unreleased performances from the band’s 1979 TUSK tour. I can feel the chills coming back already. The album is available December 4 but you can pre-order your copy on iTunes now.”

BEAUTY BUY: James Read Sleep Mask Body, $84, from Mecca Cosmetica
“I’ve fake tan-stained too many sets of white sheets to count, so James Read Tanning Sleep Mask Body from Mecca Cosmetica really has answered all my prayers. It’s a clear gel formula that’s guaranteed not to transfer any colour to your clothes or bedding and there’s no real scent to contend with either. A word of warning, you do have to make sure you take extra care to rub this in properly – because the gel isn’t tinted, you won’t know if you’ve missed any spots. But to be honest, it’s only when I’ve been in a rush, or been feeling a bit CBF, that I’ve had any issues. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a total game-changer.”

WEAR: B Coops by Beau Coops Sting High Heel, $300, from Mi Piaci
“I’m quite shoe-obsessed. One shoe-rack in my double-closet certainly doesn’t cut it. They’re spilling out everywhere and there’s really not much space for any more if I’m being honest. But I can never go past a good statement shoe and these B Coops by Beau Coops for Mi Piaci heels are certainly a show-stopper. I can honestly say I’ve never had more compliments on a pair of heels than these ones. And what’s more, the thick stacked heel and rubber sole makes them ultra-comfortable. I think I’m onto a winner…”
