Sometimes the best way to reset is to check in—literally. Between print deadlines, back-to-back meetings and overflowing inboxes, the idea of escaping the everyday (without actually leaving the city) felt like the ultimate luxury. So, ahead of our quarterly FQ Sleepover, I packed a bag and made my way to Auckland’s iconic Hilton Hotel for a much-needed staycation.
On arrival, I was greeted by the ever-attentive valet team who swiftly took care of my car, and within moments, I was gliding up to my room on the newly refurbished eighth floor. Designed with a subtle nautical nod, the space was all clean lines and calming hues—floor-to-ceiling windows opened onto a private balcony with uninterrupted harbour views, the perfect perch to watch the ferries come and go.
That evening, joined by some of our wonderful Friends of FQ, we started with cocktails at Bellini Bar before moving upstairs to FISH, the hotel’s premium restaurant. It was there we indulged in a feast that started with seared scallops, Mediterranean crab cakes, and burrata with heirloom tomatoes. For mains, I opted for the handpicked 55-day aged prime scotch fillet, and for dessert, a standout chocolate biscuit slice layered with dark chocolate mousse and pistachio crumble. Suffice to say, no one left hungry.
Back in my spacious room, the sense of serenity continued and I happily prepared for bed. The next morning brought more of the same—golden light pouring through the windows and a light breakfast back at FISH. While the FQ Sleepover may have been the official reason for my stay, the Hilton reminded me why carving out time for yourself is so important. Thoughtful, stylish, and restorative in every sense, it’s the kind of place that leaves you dreaming of your next return before you’ve even checked out.
