Lunch (and art) at Pah Homestead

Located at the end of a grand, tree-lined road nestled in Monte Cecilia Park, this is a peaceful place to enjoy a leisurely lunch with Mum.

The heritage building is home to Homestead cafe offering comforting, classic dishes invented by executive chef and food writer Sam Mannering. The homemade crumpets are a must-try, with a range of sweet and savoury topping options.

After lunch, take a look around the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, a rotating collection of 800 contemporary works with a commitment to nurturing emerging talent.

Shop and eat at the Clevedon Village markets

Breathe in some country air at the Clevedon Village Farmers Market. There’s a range of seasonal offerings from local suppliers including Clevedon Valley Buffalo Company, Hermon Bagels and much more.

While you’re in that neck of the woods the Clevedon Coast Oysters Shop is just ten minutes away and offers fresh oysters and views over the water at Waitawa Regional Park.

Amano

Splash out on fresh pasta made by the skilled hands of chefs Jo Pearson and Andrew Hanson at inner-city bistro Amano.

The restaurant’s exposed beams, dried flowers and mother of pearl accents create a chic setting in which to eat simple but thoughtful dishes from the Italian-inspired menu.

Brunch at Buoy

Its nautical style and seaside location make Buoy a great place to enjoy brunch with a view; if it’s a sunny day the extensive outdoor seating is the perfect place for some food, and perhaps a Bloody Marina (their version of a Bloody Mary), beside the moored yachts.

After brunch, go for a walk around the Westhaven Promenade – if you haven’t already eaten enough to render yourself immobile, continue over the Jacobs Ladder pedestrian bridge and explore Victoria Park and Wynyard Quarter.

Sculptureum sculpture walk

Matakana’s Sculptureum is an art, food and wine experience developed by Anthony and Sandra Grant, comprised of their own personal art collection. Sculptureum sprawls over 10 hectares with three art-filled gardens, six galleries, a vineyard, function centre and restaurant – the perfect place to get a cultural and culinary fix with Mum this Mother’s Day.

Afterwards, delight in food sourced from local producers at Rothko Restaurant. This menu is designed to showcase the best food the area has to offer.

The Hunting Lodge winery & restaurant

The Hunting Lodge, which formerly served as a cellar door and venue, recruited celebrated ex-Clooney chef Des Harris last year and refreshed their restaurant.

The seasonal, Mediterranean-inspired menu reflects Harris’ trademark skill of sauces, parfaits and charcuterie; the duck liver parfait with duck ham and feijoa chutney is a particular highlight.

The restaurant is housed in a manicured cottage which dates back to 1868 and there’s also a newer, deli-style cafe, where you can grab a sweet treat, cheese platter or fresh sandwich and eat it on a picnic blanket on the lawn.

305 – 307 Waikoukou Valley Road, Waimauku

Chateaubriant

French bakery Chateaubriant is the perfect place to collect some authentic French food, from almond croissants to beef bourguignon pie.

Located in scenic Devonport, why not get an assortment of delectable baked goods and eat them overlooking the water at historical North Head? If the weather isn’t permitting, there’s space in the character-filled cafe to enjoy the food too.
