Labour Weekend Style Edit

Whatever your long weekend entails, dive in, sit back, or park up in style with FQ’s picks below.

Labour Weekend is finally here, ending the public holiday drought after what feels like a very long hibernation. It’s literally the time of the year to treat yourself with zero inhibition, so whichever way you choose to relax this long weekend, we’ve spent the better part of our day conjuring up some crunch looks to suit your mood. And while many of you will be hitting the road, hitting the beach or hitting the couch, we hope that hitting your head against the wall figuring out what to wear is officially crossed off the list. You’re welcome.

Road trip

Clocking up some serious kms this weekend? In the interest of comfort for prolonged periods in transit and equally important roadside selfies, we’ve opted for a vintage tee which is also the key for adding instant ‘tude appeal to an otherwise tepid outfit. Dust yours off and tuck into a pair of culottes, for a silhouette that not only looks on trend, but feels breezy, ultra comfortable and totally relaxed – imperative on the open road. This denim jacket alternative by Karen Walker will go over virtually anything in your summer wardrobe and helpfully, balances out the volume of the culottes. Slip into these super cozy RUBY trainers and complete the look with some glam earrings (we chose studs so they don’t bother you while you drive), and toss all belongings – makeup, charger, bliss balls, you name it – into this deceivingly large bag. Miss FQ Labour Weekend edit - Roadie

Karen Walker Fiagro jacket, $550; Twenty-Seven Names Milo culottes, $280; Anine Bing vintage Bing t-shirt, $149; Deadly Ponies Mr Fill N Zip Twist in Brick, $850; RUBY Runner sneakers, $249 & Belladonna earrings ,$49.

Stay-cation

If you haven’t got a plan underway, don’t panic. Leaving town for a long weekend can be totally overrated. By staying home, you’re getting essentially three Sundays in a row of bubble baths, facials, fresh cotton, cozy knits and pajamas. Besides, you’ll be looking revitalised and thinking crystal clear on Tuesday morning while your co-workers are still recovering. For our stay-cation edit, we’ve chosen a long-sleeve t-shirt you can wear underneath a cami top or wear it standalone with either the matching silk-satin shorts or Lonely pants. This really is a pick ‘n’ mix of pieces you can rotate and layer depending on your mood (or temperature). Either way you’ll be feeling super sweet and light as a feather. P.S. How adorable is the Karen Walker Runaway Girl with a Pearl necklace?Miss FQ Labour Weekend edit - StayCation

City break

When work has been go, go, go and the graft’s been getting you down, wake up and smell the roses by taking to the city streets to mooch the shops and park up at restaurants. Coffees, brunches, and splurges are the focus so wearing simple pieces with fashionable hints will ensure a no-nonsense approach for whatever the day brings. And if it’s shopping you’ve got your sights set on, you’ll appreciate the separates when it comes to trying on all of the new spring arrivals in the fitting rooms. Who needs cardio when there’s shopping?Miss FQ Labour Weekend edit - Tidy Casual

Thing Thing Follow top, $79.90; & Other Stories denim panel jeans, $109, Ka Fines Sunrise studs in gold, $79; Prada phone wallet, $1345, Beau Coops leopard Jerry boot, $479; Kate Sylvester Ramona sunglasses, $349; RUBY sweater, $169

Active relaxer

For some, being active is intuitive. For others – *ahem* with the right clothing choices – being active is palatable. Whichever end of the spectrum you find yourself this long weekend, ditch the all-black ensemble or the highlighter neons and channel athleticism in style. This isn’t just any old weekend you’re going to pull on your leggings for. This is Labour Weekend. And herein lies opportunities. Be excited to be caught off guard in this outfit and say “yes” to impromptu lunches on Waiheke island or a couple of wines in Mt Maunganui post-conquering the summit. Say “totally” to nipping down to the shops for that neighbour’s barbecue you completely forgot about, and say “100%” to jumping in that selfie with your girlfriends you haven’t seen in, like, forever. “Oh no, I can’t – I’m in my activewear,” said no-one ever in this outfit.

Zara puffer jacket, $128; P.E Nation tri-block oversized t-shirt,  $222; Bodism Lisa wrap sports bra, $148; Tory Sport leggings $249; Lululemon Purist cycling water bottle, $25; Le Specs Elysium sunglasses, $99.95; New Balance Fresh Foam Cruz sneakers, $180.

Beach bound

For the bold and/or those genetically blessed with bodies that can withstand cold temperatures and heading to the beach, then dive into this pool of delicious assortments. With the weather nationwide tempering less than ideal cloud cover, don your strappiest fantastic bikini (if you dare), as definitive tan lines are less likely to eventuate (full disclaimer: probably best to do your due diligence here and check the forecast plus slather on the sunscreen). This white MLM ruffle shirt with rose embroidery adds a romantic touch to a minimalist capsule, while the gingham print in the tank adds the right amount of clash to cash in on the high fashion trends from the S/S ’18 runways. The Coop canvas bag, complete with green prawn motif, is a fun and practical addition that will undoubtedly become an integral part of your summer cache.
