5 things we loved this week

Glossy hair, the bar everyone’s talking about, and skincare that actually works from step one — all in this week’s edit.

1. Not your usual cleanse

Emma Lewisham is reshaping the way we think about the first step. The brand’s new Supernatural Crème Cleanser moves beyond simply removing the day, instead treating skin from the moment it touches your face. Built around what she calls a “reverse cleanse,” the formula works to hydrate, calm and support the skin barrier in under a minute. The result feels subtle but significant – a cleanser that doesn’t strip, but sets the tone, leaving skin balanced, comfortable and better prepared for everything that follows.

2. Wings, for winter

Sylvester’s newest collection, Wings, draws on the film Wings of Desire – an 80s Berlin reference that feels especially fitting for the colder months. Throughout the range, sharp tailoring sits alongside more textural pieces, from the Immortal Coat with its wing-like storm flaps to a fur-collared flight jacket that captures that moody, off-duty feel. Elsewhere, flashes of grass green and berry break through the darker palette, with feather prints and knitwear by Davaar softening things. Consider it added to cart.

3. Bakery to bar

Grey Lynn favourite, Mother, has entered its evening era. Long loved for its excellent coffee and pastries by Petra Galler, the neighbourhood cafe now doubles as a wine bar from Wednesday to Sunday, opening from 3:30pm till late. The daytime bakery hum gives way to aperitivo hour, with an easy indoor-outdoor flow and a menu of crowd-pleasers – including a pineapple, cucumber and jalapeño margarita and crisp fried squid. A seamless shift from morning pastry run to evening drinks.

4. Workwear, reworked

Fringes Garments’ latest collection, The Way She Moves, takes a softer approach to workwear. Drawing on 1920s references and reworking them through a modern lens, the 18-look range questions what “dressing for work” really looks like now. Think fluid tailoring and pieces designed to move with you, not against you. It’s workwear without the rigidity – more reflective of how we actually live and dress today. The collection is now available at The Shelter in Ponsonby and online.

5. The new gloss standard

From fibre health to high-shine finish, the conversation around hair has shifted – it’s less about fleeting trends and more about condition. Strength, shine and movement now take priority, with that polished-but-effortless finish leading the way. Kérastase’s Gloss Absolu range taps into exactly that. The Crème Hydra-Glaze Shampoo and Masque leave hair clean, smooth and hydrated, while the Frizz-Glaze Cream keeps everything in place (even when the weather doesn’t). A few drops of Glaze Drops finish the look – adding softness, shine and that subtle, light-catching gloss that makes all the difference.
