1. In residence
Jewellery designer Jasmin Sparrow brings her world of refined expression to life with a new residency at Deadly Ponies Ponsonby. Blending her signature sculptural jewellery with hand-sourced vintage objects, the residency features archival pieces, one-of-a-kinds, and evolving vignettes that reflect Jasmin’s instinctive, refined approach to design. With new additions introduced over time, the space becomes more than a showcase and is instead a living, breathing expression of the Jasmin Sparrow ethos. “Collecting has always sat at the centre of how I design,” Jasmin says. “This is a way to bring that to life – to create space for the things that inform the work, and share the objects I’m drawn to for their shape, texture and sentiment.” Jasmin Sparrow In Residence is now open at 70 Mackelvie Street, Ponsonby.
2. Oh, to be a Diva
Now open at Auckland Museum, DIVA is a spellbinding celebration of the performers who’ve redefined culture, style, and power on the world stage. Direct from London’s V&A, the blockbuster showcase features over 280 pieces spanning fashion, photography, and music. Expect instantly recognisable garments such as Rihanna’s unforgettable sheer, Swarovski-studded gown from the 2014 CFDA Awards and her iconic Heavenly Bodies Met Gala look, Bob Mackie showstoppers worn by Cher and Tina Turner, and Marilyn Monroe’s black fringe Some Like It Hot dress. From opera legends to pop provocateurs, DIVA spotlights the artists who’ve shaped culture, challenged norms, and commanded the spotlight – all whilst wearing sequins, feathers, and embracing their fierce originality. Don’t miss this dazzling tribute to diva’s past and present, open now until October 19.
3. Proof is in the Provence
For sun-seekers who favour slow days and soulful design, pencil in the Hôtel du Couvent in Nice, France. Tucked within the tangled streets of the Old Town, this former 17th-century convent has been lovingly restored into a serene, luxurious stay. Terraced gardens bloom with roses and citrus, encouraging an unrushed rhythm, while the interiors balance provincial charm with minimalist warmth. Daily life here revolves around seasonal fare from the hotel’s own farm, restorative underground Roman baths, and considered details steeped in history. It’s a place to switch off, sink into simplicity, and rediscover the joy of doing very little, in a very beautiful way.
4. Winter, bottled
Heretic Parfum Bergamusk ($295 for 50ml) is a small-batch, artisan fragrance crafted in Los Angeles from 100 per cent natural, botanical ingredients. It’s a scent that feels both intentional and instinctive. Bright notes of bergamot and lime meet the softness of sandalwood in a clean, genderless blend that’s equal parts citrus and musk. Uplifting and unforgettable, it wears close or lingers longer when layered.
5. Tastes like trouble…with zero regrets
Going dry this July? Make it anything but dull with Free AF’s new Mango Margarita. This alcohol-free cocktail is bold, tropical, and is the perfect antidote to the winter blues. Think juicy mango, zesty lime, and a fiery citrus hit, all rounded out with Free AF’s signature ingredient – Afterglow™ – which offers a warm, tingly finish that mimics the real thing (minus the hangover the next morning). It’s the ultimate spicy-sweet escape in a can.
