Something to sip, lots to shop, and a place to stay. Consider this your wishlist for the summer season.

1. Welcome to the jungle

Should your wardrobe be in need of a refresh this summer, a few sleek items from Silk Laundry’s newest collection ‘Nature’s Laboratory 025.23’ should do the trick. Inspired by the creative director Katie Kolodinski’s recent journey to the Amazon, the collection is a celebration of textures, patterns and colours drawn from nature. Crafted using mainly silk, the latest drop features a selection of limited-edition prints such as snakeskin, leopard and a hot lips floral — all of which pay homage to the biodiversity found within the Amazon. “For me, this collection is about making memories, facing fears, and choosing to live adventurously,” says Kolodinski. “It also highlights the importance of biodiversity and the people who dedicate their lives to preserving it.” With an extensive range of sumptuous silks and crisp cottons found within the collection, you certainly won’t be caught short when it comes to event dressing.

2. Absolutely fizzing

Is there a drink more quintessentially summery than a margarita? FQ thinks not. It’s no secret that the margarita is having a moment right now, and adding to that hype is the release of Club Sola, a new line of ready-to-drink sparkling margaritas from cocktail brand Batched. Crafted from certified tequila distilled in the Jalisco region of Mexico, these tipples are set to become our summer drink of choice, with three refreshing flavours available including Classic, Watermelon and Lime, and Pineapple and Chilli. Encased within chic vintage-style packaging, they’ll serve as aesthetic companions to all your summer barbecues and picnics.

Club Sola is available in a mixed or individual flavour box of 10. Buy them now in all premium liquor stores and online at premiumliquor.co.nz

3. Mi casa

Lovers of chic interiors will likely already be familiar with Mount Maunganui based showroom, Kayu Studio. Having first opened its doors in 2021 to provide contemporary furniture and homewares with coastal-inspired charm, the studio is now offering a more immersive experience for its customers with the introduction of Kayu Casa — an AirBnb fitted out with Kayu Studio wares. “We loved the idea of truly showcasing all our favourite pieces in situ, for people to get a genuine feel for what it would be like to use them and live among them,” says Kayu founder, James Mitchell. “Kayu Casa brings new meaning to the concept of a home for the brand.” Situated in close quarters to the brand’s showroom and just a stone’s throw away from central Mount Maunganui, this sanctuary of style is the perfect destination for a weekend sojourn or an extended stay over summer should you need a coastal respite.

Bookings are available now through airbnb.co.nz

5. Scrub up

We all appreciate a good laundry brand — especially at this time of year when our clothes tend to need more regular upkeep (read: self-tanner, wine stains, sunscreen etc.). Having taken the Australian market by storm, Melbourne-based laundry brand Dirt has now made the move to Aotearoa, and between their effective formulations and efficient, sustainable design, they’re set to become our go-to brand for all laundering needs. Setting themselves apart from most conventional laundry brands, The Dirt Company are committed to reducing environmental impact and waste; offering formulations which are 100% biodegradable and plant-based. Their diverse range of products, which includes both liquid and powder detergents and their acclaimed Stain Removers are available in refill form — designed to be reused or repurposed within the company’s refill system. Whether it’s their understated, minimal packaging or environmental ethos that entices you, we can confirm we’ve already given our laundry routines an overhaul.
