What you’ll find in Fashion Quarterly’s Spring 2016 issue

Fashion Quarterly spring 2016 will get you excited for the warmer months ahead.

“As I sit here, freezing, wrapped in Harman Grubiša Tibetan lamb during the coldest Auckland snap I can remember, I can say I am genuinely beaming with excitement. The prospect of balmy spring nights spent wearing the new SS16/17 collections has my inner magpie rejoicing. This season, strength and femininity reign supreme with dark florals, sequins, metallic beading, light-catching high-shine fabrics and whimsical appliqué embellishments, all of which you’ll find peppered throughout Fashion Quarterly’s spring issue.

I said sayonara to winter during a chance trip with Dom Pérignon to one of my favourite cities, the other-worldly Japanese capital of Tokyo (page 198). We stayed on to shoot two spring fashion editorials against a backdrop of neon lights in Shibuya and the historic alleyways of Shimokitazawa. Stepping off the street and into the office, workwear tips its hat to the 80s and 90s with power suits, structured shoulders and a more-is-more aesthetic that will help you locate your inner #Girlboss and stand out from the masses (page 118).

In beauty, we talk all things eyebrows (page 169), reveal Louis Vuitton’s glorious return to perfume with fragrance collection Les Parfums (page 156), and with wild curls cropping up on the runway, are perms back in style? We ask the experts (page 186).

We followed Karen Walker in LA for four days as she shot her new jewellery campaign, ‘Magic Hands’, and made time for a bite or two at some of the city’s premium spots (page 56). The epitome of a multitasking master, Karen once gave me a tip to listen to audio books while practicing yoga or Pilates at home, to give both your physical and mental being a good stretch. As one of the busiest – and most successful – women in the business it’s certainly sage advice.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to style yourself completely differently for a week and see how the world responded? I traded wardrobes with a colourful colleague and gained a new perspective on my own personal style in the process. Read about the fallout, how peers reacted and what we each learned on page 40.

Welcome to spring! I hope this issue inspires you as much as it does us.”
