What’s inside model Samantha Harris’ beauty bag?

Samantha Harris wears Kylie Minogue Eyewear from Specsavers

Model Samantha Harris knows a thing or two about beauty.

Having been in the industry for over a decade, fronting campaigns for the likes of David Jones, Priceline and Specsavers, and even being a Vogue Australia cover star at one point, Harris is well-versed in all areas of beauty and the need to take care of her skin.

We recently met the model at the launch of the Specsavers x Kylie Minogue Eyewear range, where Harris was looking chic in a pair of ‘Kylie 08’ black frames. We hit her up to ask her about what her beauty routine consists of and how she manages to look so flawless, both on-duty and off.

These are Samantha’s beauty go-tos:

When I wake up, I’ll use micellar water. Not that I have anything on my skin from the night before but I feel like it just freshens my skin.

At the moment, I’m using this Cinch Face Cheat Moisturiser + Glow, which you can just pick up at Priceline – it’s a mist, a moisturiser, a primer and a pore refiner in one.

During the day, I wear a moisturiser with a SPF sunscreen in it because I really need to take care of my skin, especially with the line of work I’m in.

For a day-to-day look and if I’m not doing anything too exciting, I feel like a tinted moisturiser, a cream bronzer and a bit of mascara is enough.

I’m really loving the Nude by Nature BB Cream – it’s light and you feel like you’ve got something on your face but it doesn’t look like you do!

For mascara, I just use whatever I can get my hands on. Right now I’m using a Maybelline mascara from the supermarket.

At night I use a rosehip oil but not during the day as I’d be very oily!

The best beauty trick I’ve learnt on the job is probably how to correctly apply foundation. You know how some people can get it wrong and put on either too much foundation or are just using the wrong foundation consistency for your skin type? For me personally, if I use a foundation that is too thick, it just looks weird. So I just use a Bobbi Brown one at the moment, that has a thinner consistency and sits on my skin really nicely. Obviously getting my makeup done all the time over the years, I’ve been lucky to have learnt how to do my own makeup semi-good which has been so helpful!

I get my hair done at Wildlife in Sydney’s Surry Hills. They recently coloured it on Friday and they’re really good. I’d definitely recommend them.

My signature fragrance would have to be YSL Black Opium, it’s really nice – a bit musky and mysterious.

My top desert island beauty products that I couldn’t live without would be the following:

  • A rosehip oil because it saves you having to pack about five different moisturisers!
  • A good lip balm because my lips always get really dry. I love Lanolips, and now they do it in a tinted formula that’s really nice too.
  • I’d take something for my hair – a hair treatment of some sort because with my hair being coloured, it always needs some extra love.
  • I don’t think I’d take any makeup as my hair would be that bad, even makeup wouldn’t save me! I need to get my hair under control first! So I’d probably have to also take a hairbrush.
