Our talented new intern, Ashleigh Ilton, has spent another week at Miss FQ HQ thanks to Holden Spark, helping out on a fashion photoshoot for our next issue.

What a week! I’ve been busy, busy prepping and shooting for an editorial in the upcoming Miss FQ issue two.
I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days with Fashion & Editorial Assistant, Jess Thomson who also works across Fashion Quarterly. The theme of the fab shoot you will be seeing very soon (May 22, to be exact) was ‘Athleisure’, focusing on sportswear that can be worn running errands or at the gym, too. It was super cool being a part of the process from start to finish.
We started off with a mood board so that jess and I had the same vision when sourcing the clothing. Top photography tips: This is also how the photographer, Apela Bell likes to work so that he understands how to set up each shot.
Day one, as you’ll see in the video above, was spent sourcing activewear from a heap of cool places like PR company Hustle and Bustle, sportswear store Stirling Woman, Calvin Klein and Topshop. Thank goodness the Holden Spark is so nifty to park – Auckland City in rush hour = a nightmare! We then came back to Bauer, the home of Miss FQ and styled all the looks for the next day.
Day two was shoot day! We started off nice and early (7.30am – eeek!) with hair and make up for model Devon Toi. She’s such a beauty and had such a strong look – it was perfect for what Jess and I were envisioning. When Devon isn’t studying or modelling, she plays Volleyball for New Zealand, which made her perfect fit for the athletic look we were after. I have to say, I’m super glad the back seats of the spark fold down, because we had SO MANY clothes to shoot haha.
