Pamela Stirling.

Editor of the New Zealand Listener, Pamela Stirling talks to Simply You about her go-to fashion essentials, work uniform and her best style advice.

What does your job entail?
I lead the team which every week puts out New Zealand’s best-selling current affairs and entertainment magazine. I’ve been doing it for 12 years and can’t imagine a more stimulating role.

How would you describe your personal style?
It’s all about classic cuts and crisp colour. The wonderful designer Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” That’s my mantra.

Do you have a work ‘uniform’?
I usually choose a dress that doesn’t need ironing – Diane von Fürstenberg, Paula Ryan and Charlie Brown are favourites – and pair it with a simple short jacket. “Doesn’t need ironing” being the operative term.

What’s your biggest fashion conundrum?
Will the fashion police arrest you for having bare arms or legs in summer after you reach a certain age?

What are your go-to fashion brands?
I’m open to anything but will always champion a New Zealand or Australian brand if I can.

What do you never leave home without?
Earrings. Even when I was recently covered in mud planting native trees on our family farm, I wore my little pearl earrings – you have to have standards!
