Staying creative in lockdown with RUBY designer Deanna Didovich

This week, Fashion Quarterly is checking in with a few of our favourite local fashion designers to see how they're spending their time in lockdown.

Deanna Didovich

How are you feeling about lockdown?

I’m feeling weirdly prepared and ready. Having been through this before, I knew straight away what I needed to be able to transition to working at home, and I also know my strengths and limits when I am working remotely.

I brought home my absolute work essentials, my design boards, fabric and product developments and of course, my array of drawing mediums!

What are you working on in lockdown?

I’ll be mainly focused on my summer collection, pre-planning for projects in 2022, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise with the change in levels.

I was also supposed to be shooting an upcoming collection this week, so I have to think of some creative alternatives to make this happen!

Who’s in your bubble?

I’ll be at my house in a bubble with my mum and dad! I’m so glad that they are both fully vaccinated at this time, it is a big relief for me. I received my first jab last week!

What are you doing to stay well in lockdown?

I’m usually an F45 gal, but I’ve recently subscribed to The Pilates Class. I’m looking forward to dusting my mat off and challenging myself with a different kind of exercise. The instructor, Jacqui, has a beautiful calming presence, so it’s the perfect time to add it into my daily routine.

I’ve always believed in the importance of looking after my skin and hair, so I will be making sure I take some time to give it a breather and be good with my routine. I brought a Dr Dennis Gross LED light mask the other month, so I will be using this daily along with my favourite products.

Currently, I’m obsessed with Danish skincare Beaute Pacifique, Emma Lewisham’s Illuminating Day Crème, Christophe Robin Sea Salt Scrub, a hair mask from Inès, and Chloe Zara’s Hair Perfume Oil.

I’ll definitely (like everyone) be spending lots of time in the kitchen, in particular making the most of homegrown lemons! Alison Roman’s Lemon Tumeric loaf has already been made and devoured!

A RUBY office favourite of the past few months is Lady Grey tea, and I just received the latest edition of Fashion Quarterly with the beautiful RUBY Aimee Silk Dress on the cover, so I can’t wait to dive in with a cuppa.
