It’s playful, it’s pretty, it’s bang on trend. Rose gold is the shade du jour; here’s how to make it work for you.
Rose gold is definitely the hottest metallic hue at the moment – so don’t stop at rose-ifying your jewellery and home interior. Why not try it for your hair colour too? So far we’ve seen it on Sienna Miller, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Blake Lively and Katy Perry, and it shows no signs of going out of favour anytime soon.
The shade is a balance of pink, peach and gold and looks particularly good with a porcelain complexion. Beware though – if you have pink tones in your skin this is not the colour for you as it will make the pink on your face stand out even more.
Take a photo with you to your appointment so your stylist can see the exact colour you mean – you don’t want it to come out strawberry blond or, worse, a brassy orange. Naturally, rose gold works best for blondes as it is easier to get the right shade. However, Mimi Kelly from Killer Hair says it works for brunettes too. “If you have brown hair, instead of going all over rose-gold, it looks best with an ombre or slices through the length, leaving the base dark,” she says. To stop your colour from fading too fast, Kelly advises using a colour shampoo recommended by your hairdresser and to look after your locks in the sun. “Always wear a hat. And if swimming it’s always a good idea to wet your hair prior to taking a dip. Hair is like a sponge so if it’s already full of pure water it will absorb less salt or chlorinated water.”
