The non-negotiables: why sunscreen should be a part of everyone’s daily routine

If you think you can scrimp on sunscreen, think again.

Avene's Sunscreen Aqua-fluid SPF50+ is the must-have for protecting you from UVA and UVB rays.

By now we should all know that when it comes to looking after your skin, your number one priority should be to use sunscreen. Always. And with the warmer weather beckoning it’s important to wear the right daily facial sunscreen – one that will not only to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays (which in turn will help to slow the ageing process) but to stop the onslaught of pigmentation and even help skin texture.

The problem is, using the SPF that comes in your skincare is simply not enough. And adding another step to your already loaded skincare regime can seem like a mammoth task. For best practice it’s important to find a dedicated facial SPF that can be worn every day, and does what it says it will do. But on top of that you want to find one that absorbs effortlessly into your skin, and doesn’t leave that bright white cast.

Enter Avene’s Sunscreen Aqua-fluid SPF50+. Like its name suggests it has a fluid texture which absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving no white sheen, and if anything a subtle dewy glow. What’s impressed me the most is how lightweight it is, and how it easily sits underneath makeup.

But the most important question we all want to know is whether or not it works? With so many sunscreens under the magnifying glass over the last few years it’s hard to know what to look for, and whether what you choose is going to protect your skin. Thankfully Avene’s Sunscreen Aqua-fluid SPF50+ does. Not only does it meet NZ Sunscreen regulations and testing, it has high protection of SPF50+ and protects against UVA (shorter-wavelength rays that can penetrate the skin’s inner layers) and UVB (which damage the outermost surface). What’s more, like many Avene products it’s rich in Thermal Spring Water, is alcohol, paraben, and avobenzone free, and has been designed for sensitive skin.

I also love that it’s petite – a 40ml vessel that is small enough to fit in your handbag so you can take it anywhere with you and touch up as required leaving you no excuse not to add a sunscreen to your daily routine.
