Matilda Rice, Jockey

If you don’t know who Matilda Rice is, we’d question whether you’ve been living under a rock for the past year.

Not only is she the beautiful blonde who stole Art Green’s heart in the popular first season of The Bachelor, but now the 25-year-old is has been named the new face of Jockey underwear.

We sat down with Matilda to have a chat about her favourite pieces from the range, her relationship with Art and her go-to Sydney hotspots.

FQ: What does it mean to you to be a Jockey ambassador?
Matilda Rice: I like that I am not a model, that I am just an everyday person. I don’t have the perfect body, I don’t have a model’s body and I think it says a lot about the Jockey brand that they chose me to be their ambassador. It shows that it is comfortable underwear that fits everyone and it’s not made for a certain size. I’m just really excited to showcase that.

What are your favourite pieces from the range?
I really love the athleisure-wear pieces. They are really comfortable which is great when you’re going to work out. But if you do just end up wearing them out to breakfast, you still look stylish, so it serves both purposes. The pink floral print set is also one of my favourites.

Why do you love Jockey?
I love Jockey because it is quality, comfortable underwear and it is just a really nice premium brand that Kiwis seem to love.  I jumped at the chance to work with them because they have a got a really cool ethos and they are lovely people to work with.

How would you describe your personal style?
It’s very classic and feminine. I like really simple things but structured. I love white, beige, light pink and cream – quite classic colours. Every time I go shopping with Art he’s like, “are you going to branch out and get something not cream?” And I’m like “No, I’ll probably get the same!”

What are your favourite trends for winter?
Big roll neck jumpers because they are so comfortable and warm but they look amazing. And a really nice pair of black ankle boots because I feel the knee high boots are on the way out, which is a shame because I have, like, three pairs at home!

What’s on your winter wishlist?
Well, I was just Sydney recently and I went to a shop called Ginger and Smart and every pair of shoes they had were amazing and now I’m like “why didn’t I buy them?”. I’m so upset, so I think I am going to look online for them!

If you could raid anyone’s wardrobe who would it be?
Rosie Huntington-Whitely. She is my style icon/girl crush. I love her!

How has your life changed since The Bachelor?
It has changed a lot. I wouldn’t get opportunities like this beforehand and now I’m much busier… but my life hasn’t really changed in terms of what I am doing. I still work full-time and have my career, but now I have a partner which is amazing and I get to do a lot of fun stuff like working with incredible brands such as Jockey, so it has changed a lot in a year that’s for sure!

You and Art recently celebrated your one-year anniversary – what’s next?
We are pretty much taking our relationship day by day. We are just planning our holidays and down the track hopefully we will start a family… but that’s not for a long time. I am nowhere near ready to look after any child!

What a view. The beach is nice too 😘 #brbmovingtosummerbay

You recently went to Summer Bay. What was your favourite part about the trip?
It is just such a stunning area! It was so incredible because it was the middle of winter and the sun was shining and it wasn’t even that cold and the colour of the water and the sand were amazing. On Friday it was 26 degrees so we went swimming at Bondi, which was beautiful.

Where are your go-to places for shopping in Sydney?
I love Paddington. It has amazing boutiques like Ellery and Camilla and Marc. Surrey Hills is really nice for shopping as well.

What were some of your favourite restaurants?
The winery at Surrey Hills is awesome and we also had lunch at a place called Vue in Bondi – the view was amazing and it had really good tapas. We also had brunch at a café called Jackie’s. It was so good – we had their vanilla, ricotta pancakes and they were next level!

What’s next on your vacation list?
We are heading to the Blue Mountains in New South Wales soon for a weekend so I am really looking forward to that and we are going to Fiji later in the year which will be nice. I am hoping to get to South America at some stage… I really want to go but that probably won’t be ’til next year. It is such a beautiful country so I really want to go and spend quite a bit of time travelling around.
