This new local wine brand is shaking things up and we are here for it

Makers Anonymous is the wine brand you will want to be seen drinking.

Up until now, selecting the perfect wine for whatever occasion is usually based on a few factors; taste, varietal, region, label or even the name. But not all delicious wines stop at that criteria. New kid in town Makers Anonymous has added another, and one we think is pretty special: getting behind local design, arts and culture.

Rejecting traditional wine etiquette, Makers Anonymous’ approach makes the art of drinking wine even cooler. From bottle design to artist collaborations, the brand is bringing the best of fashion, lifestyle, music and art together, reminding us that wine is as much about the people consuming it and the surroundings, as it is about the wine itself.

Makers Anonymous has launched with three varietals—Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris—all using Marlborough grapes and traditional winemaking techniques. But forget traditional when it comes to bottle design, as this brand dares to push the boundaries. Along with removing the tasting notes from the label, each varietal has its own wordplay presented with a gold graffiti typeface over the bottle.

Pick your favourite wine and it’ll display a rebellious brand descriptor—Pinot Gris reads ‘RISQUE’, Sauvignon Blanc reads ‘SAUCY’, and Rosé reads ‘SEXY’; a playfulness that reminds us to not take ourselves so seriously. There’s no denying this point of difference also makes the brand all the more chic.

Makers Anonymous collaborated with three creative disruptors for its launch in November to ensure its ‘make it your own’ ethos was communicated from day dot. Those tapped for the launch partnership were Kiwi-born, Bondi-based Sam Moore of fashion brand Dead Studios, who created a limited edition Makers Anonymous x Dead Studios collection; glass blower Luke Jacomb, who produced a beautiful range of Makers Anonymous glassworks; and fashion photographer Hayden Worsfold, whose custom black and white photographs captured the raw and rebellious spirit of the brand. All of the creative outputs were exhibited at the launch.

When you drink Makers Anonymous, you join a community of creatives who all share similar ideals; it’s the drink designed to lift energy and bring the vibe, whether rain or shine—and that’s a community that we quite like the sound of.
