Nearly 20 years after making its New Zealand debut in Ponsonby, MECCA has unveiled a larger, reimagined flagship in the heart of the Auckland suburb.
Occupying a restored 1908 heritage building on the Three Lamps end of Ponsonby Road, the new flagship balances original architectural details with a refined contemporary interior by design studio Hecker Guthrie.
The 323-square-metre flagship – almost triple the size of the original store – allows for a significantly expanded offering. Customers can now shop more than 95 brands, including 31 new additions, with sought-after names such as Rhode, Glossier, Charlotte Tilbury, Le Labo, Maison Francis Kurkdjian and By Terry joining the line-up.
Fragrance, too, takes centre stage. An expanded Perfumeria introduces a curated selection of niche fragrance houses including DS & Durga, Escentric Molecules, Vilhelm Parfumerie and DedCool, alongside dedicated fragrance consultations designed to help customers navigate the increasingly crowded world of scent.
Beyond the shelves, the new flagship reflects the growing shift towards experience-led beauty retail. Dedicated makeup artistry stations sit alongside a semi-private skin treatment space, with customers able to book everything from makeup applications to skincare services and personalised fragrance appointments.
“Ponsonby has always held a special place in our heart and MECCA’s story as the home of our very first MECCA store in New Zealand nearly 20 years ago,” says Nicky Shore, MECCA New Zealand Country Manager. “As beauty continues to become more deeply connected to lifestyle and self-expression, we’re excited to bring an expanded offering of brands, services and experiences to a community that has been part of the MECCA journey from the very beginning.”
To celebrate the opening, MECCA will host a series of curated experiences across the weekend, including complimentary fragrance engraving, pastries from Daily Bread, exclusive gifts with purchase and a curated menu of bookable beauty services spanning makeup, skincare and fragrance.
