In a recent interview with Vogue, Versace creative director Donatella Versace dropped a bombshell that shed light on a major fashion faux pas (that most of us probably didn’t even realise we were committing!): English speakers have been mispronouncing ‘Versace’ for years – and yes, this includes Kanye West and his infamous Versace rant.
As part of the 73 questions with Vogue segment, Donatella answered a round of quick fire questions in the setting of her Milan apartment. When the interviewer asked Donatella which word she wished English speakers would stop saying incorrectly, she revealed—without missing a beat—it was her family name.
As it turns out, most of us have been saying “Versach-ee” when in face the correct pronunciation is “Versach-eh”.
