The classic flick
It has a 60s feel to it, but somehow the eyeliner flick always seems to look modern. Here’s how you can do it with surgical tape if your hands are too shaky to try it freehand.
Step 1: Cut two small strips of surgical tape.
Step 2: Take one strip and place the long edge, starting from the outer corner of the eye, flush against the lower lash line edge and angle up towards the outer tip of the eyebrow. (The angle you place the tape will determine the ‘slope’ of your flick.)
Step 3: The second strip is then placed above the first strip. Tape from the upper lash line (just up from the outer corner) towards the temple (for a longer flick) or towards to the cheekbone (for a shorter flick). The width of your ‘flick’ depends on how close you place the pieces together.
Step 4: Filling in the gap with your choice of liner, allow to dry, then peel tape off. Now it’s just a matter of lining your upper lash line and connecting it to your perfect flick.
Expert tip: “Curl and mascara your lashes first,” says Matson. “Then do a little dot with a sharp eye pencil for where you’re aiming for – where you want the flick to go.”
