The designer behind Scandinavian it-label Ganni shares her Copenhagen hidden gems

Having redefined Scandi-cool for a new generation of it-girls, Ganni’s designer Ditte Reffstrup is part of the zeitgeist. She shares her must-visit spots in Denmark’s vibrant capital.

“Copenhagen is where my heart is,” says Ditte. “I always find inspiration from the cool girls in the streets and I love people watching here. I love being able to ride my bike around.”

With her husband a business partner Nicolaj, she has been peddling a new kind of Scandi-style through her fun and effortless approach to design at Ganni.

Likewise, the local spots Ditte recommends for a visit to her hometown all emulate a sense of laid-back, design-loving joy – with a sense of community to boot.

Read on to find Ditte’s top five hidden gems in the creative capital of Copenhagen:

Apollo Bar

Owned by our dear friend Frederik Bille Brahe, Apollo Bar is located in the courtyard of historical Danish institution, Kunsthal Charlottenborg – the best place in town to see contemporary art. Go for great food, atmosphere and people watching, while dining in the company of statues.

David’s Collection

One of our first presentations took place in The David Collection – a gallery that exhibits a large collection of art from the Middle East. We recently revisited and shot our Pre-Fall campaign there. Only a few know about it so it’s definitely an insider tip.

Louisiana Museum

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is one of my all-time favourite museums. The architecture is pure beauty, so light and natural in how it blends in with the waterside surroundings by the coast north of Copenhagen, the glass-walled cafeteria gives amazing views. And the art is of course also in a league of its own. I always come home inspired.

The Royal Garden Restaurant

We used to always celebrate my birthday at The Royal Garden, with a bunch of friends and a table full of food. It’s no newcomer to the Copenhagen food scene, but it’s the best dim sum in town.

Den Vandrette

Den Vandrette has a tasty selection of biodynamic, organic and natural wines and there’s always a good vibe there. In the summer it’s the perfect spot to catch the last rays of sun after work, as it’s right on the waterfront.
