Patchology Flash Patch Lip Gels

This editor-approved brand has just arrived at Mecca

Everyone is #masking right now and with so much on offer, the brands that are coming out on top are those which can give us results within a very short time. Patchology is swiftly gaining fans in the US for its super cute patch lip, eye and sheet masks that rejuvenate the skin in mere minutes. Praised by the likes of Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Allure, Patchology is finally available in New Zealand through Mecca Maxima and online at Mecca Beauty. From sheet mud masks (yes, they exist) to 5-minute hydrating lip gels, they’re all mess-free and so simple to apply you could almost do them at your desk without anyone thinking you’re weird…

The Cut walk-in salon in Sylvia Park

You can now get cheap haircuts that are anything but basic

We’ve all had our parents drag us into a walk-in haircut bar at some point during our childhood. Heck, you may have even dabbled in the $30 mop chop during your skimp student years. But after experiencing the pleasure of a full service salon with all its basin massages, serene environs and masterful way with scissors, the old walk-in had been relegated to just a distant memory. Until now. The idea of popping in on a whim (or a bad hair day) without the eight-week wait list of your usual salon definitely appeals, not to mention the ease on your wallet when all you really need is a quick tidy up.  Which is exactly what award-winning hairdressers Hamilton Brooks and Frana Evans were thinking when they recently opened their new walk-in salon The Cut. Located in Auckland’s Sylvia Park and with a sleek fit-out by interior gurus Janice Kumar Ward and Julian Ward, the menu starts at $30 and offers cuts (capped at a crazy-low $33), blow-drys, fringe and beard trims and basin treatments.

ORCHIDÉE IMPÉRIALE CRÈME VISUEL SECONDAIRE

Guerlain’s new release is the height of luxury

If you’re familiar with Guerlain products, you’ll know that the the heritage brand’s stunning packaging is an experience in itself. This latest release, however, might just top the lot. The Orchidée Impériale range has a new addition in the extravagant Orchidée Impériale Cream (with an equally extravagant price of $753) and its incredible jewel-like packaging and sculptural jar is designed so you to not only enjoy amazing skincare benefits, but the ritual of opening and applying the product as well. With a whopping 15 years of study behind it (the brand has an entire research centre devoted to the study of orchids), the new technology in this moisturising cream promises even more effectiveness against signs of ageing – plus a gallery-worthy ornament to sit atop your dresser.

This cooking ingredient is the latest trend in fragrances

The announcement of Michael Kors’ new limited edition perfume Turquoise will have you rushing to the fragrance counter, but this latest creation could give you a shock: One of the base notes of the fragrance is sea salt. Called ‘fleur de sal’ (flower of salt) by the perfume industry, the note – which can also be found in Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt and OdeJo’s EDT – is refreshing, crisp, and evokes a nostalgia of lazy days spent at the beach. “Perfumers are now using salt as chef’s do — as a non-dominant note to add contrast to heavier, sweeter scents,” fragrance expert Paul Austin told Allure. The fragrance also includes notes of water lily, cucumber and zingy lime, with a warming undertone of musk — a refreshing reminder of sunshine and longer days to get you through the cooler months ahead.
