The fringe just went up another notch… literally.

“Should I get bangs?” A question we’ve all asked at some point in time. And while 2017 saw the rise of the French girl inspired Brigitte Bardot curtain bangs, 2018 is moving onwards and upwards to the micro fringe.

Minimal and easy, this hair update first caught our attention when it was seen on the likes of Emma Roberts, Alison Sudol and Sofia Boutella on the red carpet. Both Emma Watson and Ariana Grande debuted this new ‘do on Instagram, while Bella Hadid—forever ahead of the fashion curve—tried the trend out last year. And as per usual, she looked er—banging!

This blunt choppy fringe sits well above the eyebrows creating a strong, dramatic look with an edgy retro vibe. Completely practical, we can imagine the relief at not having to constantly sweep your fringe our of your eyes every second of the day. However, like any hair style the baby bangs do require a bit of work to ensure the fringe sits correctly on the forehead.

A slightly polarising style, we understand this hair cut isn’t for everyone and definitely suits the more fearless among us. So if you’re after a dramatic change and want to be at the forefront of hair trends, then this style just might be the one for you.

And if you’re keen for an adventure but don’t want to commit to a hairstyle you might wake up and regret in a couple of months (we’ve all been there) then might we suggest pulling an Emma Roberts? Fake the cut using a hair piece (like the one seen on Roberts at the Critic’s Choice Awards). The hairpiece looked so real, it had the Internet pondering for days if she’d done the chop.

As spoken in the words of Roberts’ hair stylist: baby bangs are “not a look we typically do… but then again, who wants to be typical?”
