By Fashion Quarterly

These creative minds are super talented and making major moves.

Having a creative mind and talent is one thing; sharing it with the world is another – and one that our Miss FQ Influence Awards Art and Culture finalists for 2019 know a thing or two about.

Whether it’s drawing up a storm, spinning decks or directing the next biggest film, each of our finalists are beyond talented in their own right and we just count ourselves lucky they are willing to share that talent with all of us.

So are you ready to meet your Arts & Culture finalists, as nominated by YOU?

RUBY JONES
@rubyalicerose

Ruby is a Wellington-based illustrator who creates beautiful artwork and showcases most of her work on Instagram. She was the artist behind the ‘This is your home and you should have been safe here’ illustration that went global after the devastating events in Christchurch in March 2019; her work so impactful and moving she was commissioned to illustrate a special cover of Time magazine. Her work has appeared in Vogue, Marie Claire, i-D and Nadia magazines and she has also released her own book.

RAIN AND CHINA KATAYANAGI
@katayanagitwins

Incoming: The coolest twin duo you’ll ever come across. Rain and China are a multi-talented model and DJ duo who know a thing or two about style, music and what’s cool. When they’re not modelling for top fashion brands including Huffer, or attending all the coolest parties, they’re DJing their way across the country. In fact they’re booked for the upcoming gig ‘FestivalX’, playing alongside some of the big names including Calvin Harris.

ALI BURNS AND VICTORIA CHELLEW
@girlsrockcampaotearoa

Ali and Victoria are the founders of Girls Rock! Camp – a programme that is designed to empower young women, transgender and gender non-conforming youth. Recently established in 2018, this camp fosters these individuals through music, allowing them to explore their creativity and grow in confidence.

ROSE MCMAHON
@rosemcmahon_film

Rose is the founder of Twinkling Bat Films and her passion for writing and directing has lead her to make multiple short films, including her latest project, In the Rainbow, a webseries with authentic stories about LGBT+ youth available on TVNZ On Demand. She has also won several local awards for her work and is most definitely one to watch!

BONNIE BROWN
@studio.bon

Bonnie is a keen illustrator and content creator who also happens to be a member of our Miss FQ Collective! While she’s done some illustrations for previous Miss FQ issues she has done a tonne of other work, including teaming up with some awesome businesses and campaigns, including Estee Lauder for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Busy Bonnie also launched Counter Journal this year, a quarterly independent print publication featuring “the most interesting stories you never knew you wanted to read”.

Stay tuned to see who has taken out their category, announced September 26, 2019.
