It’s political, obvs
When a photo of Karlie Kloss on the Oscars red carpet popped up, our first reaction was ‘OMG amazing’ (because she does look damn beautiful, as per).
But our next question was, ‘Why is she wearing a blue ribbon to the Academy Awards?’
Then we noticed Loving actress Ruth Negga was wearing one on her spectacular red Valentino gown, too.
As was Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moonlight director Barry Jenkin and musician Sting.
Aside from the dresses, it’s the little blue ribbon which belongs to the American Civil Liberties Union – a key organisation in advocating against POTUS Trump’s immigration ban – that’s capturing red carpet viewers’ attention.
The initiative for the pin, which began last week, encourages celebrities to proudly wear the ribbon “as a symbol of solidarity with the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, which has worked for nearly 100 years to defend and protect individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and law of the U.S.”
Karla Welch, Ruth Negga’s stylist, took to Instagram to show her own support for the cause, saying it’s “the accessory I’m most proud of.”

If this powerful little pin is anything to go by, we have a feeling The 89th Academy Awards is going to be just as political as the Golden Globes.
