A world-class studio combined with a spa-like experience is what Vicky Cullinane had in mind when she set out to create Auckland’s newest yoga space, Studio Red.
Enlisting the help of award-winning Cheshire Architects, Cullinane’s brief to Nat Cheshire and team was to “create a modern sanctuary that felt more day-spa than fitness studio”. The results speak for themselves: Polished concrete floors, specially-treated cedar wall panels, custom furniture and luxurious bathrooms ensure every person who steps through the door is treated to the comforts more often found in a boutique hotel.
The attention to detail runs from the aesthetic right through to the sophisticated temperature control systems and acoustic controls, which block out any noise from the surrounding area of Wellesley Street’s buzzing City Works Depot.
Cullinane has extended her high standards to the instruction side of things too, carefully recruiting the best teachers in Auckland. The studio offers classes in Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin yoga as well as a special class set to an upbeat playlist on Friday nights.
“If people are going to have their first hot yoga experience, we would love it to be here,” Cullinane says. “Our open-level classes are perfect for those just starting out in yoga or for those who have been practicing for some time. The warm room means you can really stretch your body and the heat intensifies the workout to challenge you both physically and mentally.”
Studio Red offers six classes each weekday and five classes on both days of the weekend.
