Think clean lines, corsetry inspiration, and modern tailoring that feels more directional than nostalgic.

Peplum is having a comeback — but not the one you remember. This season’s iteration trades the ruffled excess of decades past for something sharper: structured waists, architectural volume, and a corsetry-inspired silhouette that feels considerably more directional than throwback.

It’s a shape that’s showing up everywhere, from Stella McCartney’s runway and Dior’s resort collections to the season’s key pieces; think a sculpted collar jacket, a draped satin top, or a peplum gown built for maximum impact. The common thread is precision. This isn’t about romantic excess; it’s about tailoring that does the work, creating shape and movement without losing structure.

Whether you’re easing in with a single peplum top or going all-in with a gown for an impending special occasion, here’s how to wear the trend now.

Styling tip: peplum is your best friend when your bottom half is doing a lot of visual work (i.e. baggy denim or loose tailored trousers). A defined waist up top brings the whole silhouette back into balance, giving shape exactly where you need it without fighting the volume below.
