When working in fashion, it’s essential to have a mobile device that records colour and finer details with accuracy.

We can all appreciate the visual beauty of fashion, whether the glimmering sheen of a silky skirt or sunlight dazzling on a piece of jewellery. And if you’re fond of capturing those unexpected fashion scenes, you’ll be thrilled to know that I’ve discovered a gadget for all your photography needs — the aesthetically pleasing OPPO Find X5 Pro.
Described as being “housed in a curved body with cosmic tones” and with the power of “futuristic technology”, I’m intrigued by the phone before it’s even arrived.
Available in a sleek Glaze Black or luxurious Ceramic White colourway, I opt for the former to match the rest of my devices. Whatever your style preference, the OPPO Find X5 Pro is a minimalist’s dream. Thin and streamlined yet sturdy, the curved screen is ideal for balancing work and play; I can switch between editing articles and streaming television with ease.
I could talk all day about the OPPO Find X5 Pro’s features — from syncing my music app to my home speakers, to using the Google Assistant to receive weather updates. But, for now, I’ll stick to what I believe is the phone’s premium feature: its state-of-the-art Hasselblad camera for mobile. Photographers have long used Hasselblad to capture some of the most influential celebrities of the past half-century — think Kate Bush, Elizabeth Taylor, Naomi Campbell … the list goes on.
Whether you’re an avid photographer or simply want to point and shoot, the OPPO Find X5 Pro’s camera delivers highly accurate colour — an essential attribute for any storyteller. It also offers preset filters and the renowned XPan format to create cinematic panoramas and vintage-style photos.
And if you’re looking to capture movement in action, shaky hands are no problem. The OPPO Find X5 Pro showcases image stabilisation for super steady videos without the need for a tripod.
I use the device to snap some photos on my morning travels — delighting in how it captures scenes as varied as light dancing over a rhubarb Danish and the shadowy draping of the Esse fitting room at Bloc in Auckland’s Mount Eden. Back home, I dig through my wardrobe to find a pair of feathery stilettos that my sister wants to borrow, snapping and sending a photo to get her thoughts. While I await her reply, I closely inspect the image. The OPPO Find X5 Pro has captured the feathered detailing with perfect precision.
Once 5.30pm rolls around, it’s time to get ready for a night out. I put the phone on charge — it hits 100 per cent in just 12 minutes.
I reapply my make-up and take a few test videos for TikTok. Although I’m in a fluorescent-lit room, the videos are bright — I’d usually require a selfie ring light to achieve this effect.
Changing into a vivid pink shirt and metallic blue boots, I ask my designated ‘boyfriend of Instagram’ to capture a ’gram-worthy outfit shot. It’s pitch-black outside, and he’s grumpy standing in the cold, so, thankfully, the OPPO Find X5 Pro makes the process straightforward.
I hold a pose while he half-heartedly presses the camera button. No flash is needed, as the camera has an enviable Ultra Night Pro Mode. It captures the hues of my outfit in all its glory, like a floodlight has magically appeared — I’m amazed by the colour accuracy and resolution.
After a dreamy 24 hours spent with the OPPO Find X5 Pro, I’m not ready to give it up. It’s a premium investment that’s on par with the price of a designer handbag and is an accessible way to showcase your style in the best light possible — no rose-tinted glasses needed here.
