As seasons change, trends in the fashion world tend to ebb and flow: many never to be seen or worn again. But here at Fashion Quarterly, we’re all about curating wardrobes with statement pieces that we’ll reach for time and time again, season after season. To help you do just that, we’ve turned to the street style world to round up timeless trends you can wear right now and forever.
1. Think (hot) pink
As much as we love millennial pink–and fans fret not: there’s still plenty of it in this season’s collections–we’re rather smitten with its striking sister: hot pink. There’s no need to be deterred by this vivid shade even if you’re a little pink averse: as out-there as this punchy shade of pink might be, it’s an easy one to work into your wardrobe. Start by pairing a colourful knit or oversized shirt with your favourite denim or add an easy pop of the vivid hue to your outfit with luxe accessories.
Clockwise from top left: Balenciaga ‘Hourglass XS’ handbag, $3550. SAMSØE SAMSØE ‘Luana’ shirt in Honeysuckle, $229 from Fabric. Aje ‘Tidal’ tucked cut-out midi dress, $605. Christie Nicolaides ‘Amalita’ earring, $385.99. Bottega Veneta stretch crystal sandals from Moda Operandi, approx. $2590. Wynn Hamyln keyhole knit top, $395.
2. Oversized tailoring is here to stay
When it comes to tailoring, you can forget about slim-fit this and skinny-leg that: oversized silhouettes are here for good. Think big, baggy blazers paired with super slouchy pants, then all you need to reach for is your go-to carry-all tote.
3. This colour gets the green light
From almost-neon hues (see Georgia Jay’s latest colourway, ‘Verde’) to jewel-inspired teal shades, we can’t get enough of peppering our wardrobe with pops of green. And don’t worry, you won’t be forced to choose your favourite colour this season: bold colour lovers are sure to clash the hottest shade of pink with lush hues of green.
4. Beige is anything but boring
As much as we’re fond of embracing the brightest of colours–note our love of hot pink, lush green and colourful coats–there’s one timeless pared-back colour palette that we reach for again and again. From the trusty beige-toned trench coat to statement accessories in the subtlest of shades, dressing in head-to-toe neutrals gets our tick of approval year after year.
4. Be bold in rainbow-bright coats
There’s no better way to beat the impending winter blues than to embrace a rainbow-inspired palette for the chilly season’s number one essential: the coat. And if you’re reluctant to invest in colourful outerwear because you’ve deemed it a trend that’s sure to pass, rest assured colour blocking never goes out of fashion.
