With winter around the corner, things are cooling down. And while you may be sad about the incoming chill, there’s something exciting about invigorating your wardrobe with luxurious and warming layers. With no better way to dress up an outfit than by throwing on a stylish coat, here are five of our favourite trends to keep you cosy and content all season long.

1. The shacket

Harris Tapper ‘Elliot Shacket’, $649

Moochi ‘The Shacket’, $499

For the trans-seasonal weather, the hybrid shirt-jacket, or ‘shacket, is a versatile option for all your layering needs. Continuing its reign from last winter as a trending style, the shacket’s boxy, oversized fit allows it to be thrown over casual attire with ease or styled over a dress for comfort.

2. The puffer

Nanushka ‘Eska Coat’ from Muse, $1,450

Summi Summi ‘Bomber Jacket’ from Superette, $409

A classic when it comes to winter, of late, puffer jackets have been all over the runway, becoming a celebrity staple, with the likes of Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and Rose McGowan sporting them out and about. Whether you’re heading out in activewear or going for brunch with friends, a bright coloured or leather-look puffer will keep you cosy and elevate your outfit with ease.

3. The leather trench

Paris Georgia ‘Emile Trench’ from Browns, $1,195

Kate Sylvester ‘Gene Coat’, $1,300

timeless autumn staple, add a little elegance or grunge to your trusty trench coat with a leather fabrication. One of our favourite 90’s fashion trends to make a resurgence over the past year, it can be worn belted as a dress or styled over light-weight knits and denim. While an investment piece, if cared for properly, it’ll last you a lifetime.

4. Plaid patterns

Maggie Marilyn ‘Longline Early Mornings Shacket’, $1,295

Juliette Hogan ‘Barb Coat’, $899

No matter where you are in the world, a plaid coat is a staple cold-weather style. This season, we’re moving on from classic monochrome colours, with plaid available in various colour and fabric combinations. Pretty and practical, it’ll add a joyous dash of vibrancy to the simplest of outfits.

4. Bright and bold

Sax Potts ‘Shearling Trimmed Leather Coat’ from Selfridges, $2645

Kate Sylvester ‘Aria Coat’ $999

As the temperature drops, it’s tempting to reach for neutral tones like black, beige and grey. However, to help us fight the winter blues, designers are brightening our palettes with intense and radiant colours. From peachy pinks to vivid greens, these standout styles are available in multiple lengths and silhouettes to suit everyone’s tastes.
