5 things we loved this week

15 July 2026
By Sophie de Renzy

Nobel Laureate backed beauty, scented winter rituals, next-level hair styling tech and a Newmarket reopening worth celebrating — all in this week's edit.

1. A new season, a new store

RUBY is proving physical retail still has a pulse with the reopening of its completely reimagined Newmarket store on Teed Street, reworked in a soft pink palette as a new home for its Rubettes. The move comes as many shopping precincts face closures and shifting consumer habits, making RUBY’s investment in bricks and mortar a confident statement on the enduring pull of in-person shopping. Doors have officially reopened, alongside the launch of new season collection ‘Overqualified’, an exploration of the modern working wardrobe, dropping in full on 23 July.

2. The beauty brand a Nobel Laureate couldn’t ignore

Emma Lewisham has just landed one of the most credible endorsements a beauty brand can earn. Nobel Laureate Dr. Peter Agre, the scientist behind the discovery of aquaporins, has recognised the New Zealand brand for its scientific rigour and sustainable practices, marking the first time he has publicly backed a beauty company. It follows Dr. Jane Goodall’s endorsement in 2021 where she said “I sincerely hope that the beauty industry can follow Emma Lewisham’s lead. I believe they are paving the way for the future.” Forget celebrity ambassadors, Emma Lewisham’s ultimate stamp of approval comes with an actual Nobel Prize attached.

3. Heat damage’s days are officially numbered

ghd Sculpt is changing the heat styling game. Powered by clever new AI tech, it senses and adapts to your hair’s actual temperature as you style, so you get all the shine with none of the damage. It’s ghd’s most advanced tool yet, delivering more shine, less frizz, and styling that’s five times faster, all packed into a chic, light design that makes it feel as good as it looks. Consider it added to cart.

4. It’s time to give your décolletage some attention

Tronque is taking its “skincare from the neck down” ethos further with the Neck & Décolletage Elixir. Three years in development, it’s built on a patented exosome mimetic active and next-gen NMF support, targeting one of the most neglected, telltale areas of ageing with the same care usually reserved for the face. The launch follows a major milestone, Tronque becoming the first New Zealand or Australian beauty brand stocked at Violet Grey, a globally renowned luxury beauty retailer, sitting alongside industry icons Augustinus Bader and La Mer.

5. Let there be warmth

Glasshouse is turning up the warmth this winter with Tales of the Desert, a limited-edition collection of rich, layered scents built for the colder months. Three new fragrances span five products, from Soy Candles to Eau de Parfum, each opening with spice and honey before settling into deep, sophisticated woods. Wrapped in jewel-toned, gilded packaging, every piece is as covetable to look at as it is to wear or burn.
