As we revel in the height of summer by spending more time in the sun and water, it’s essential to reach for more than just your trusty sunscreen — our hair and lips are just as vulnerable from all those rays, salty seawater, and chlorine.

To protect, hydrate, and replenish your entire body all summer long, read on for our go-to hair and skincare saviours:

1. Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Superscreen Oxybenzone Free Formula, $47

A winning product in the Mecca Beauty Election for 2021, it’s no wonder that this sunscreen has quickly amassed a cult following. Containing a broad spectrum SPF 50 that filters both UVA and UVB rays, it’s sure to keep you protected from Aotearoa’s harsh rays. We love that the sunscreen contains vitamin E to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, and its weightless formula goes on flawlessly under make-up (perfect for those days spent on Waiheke!).

2. Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm SPF 30 from Mecca, $17.50

While you may not think to include your pout in your SPF routine, the skin on your lips is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face, making it susceptible to sun damage. For hydrated, protected lips with a nude finish, look no further than Lanolips’ SPF 30 balm in ‘perfect nude’ which harnesses the power of lanolin and shea butter.

3. Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s UV Protective Dry Oil Finishing Spray from Mecca, $55

This protective finishing spray is formulated with UVA and UVB filters, as well as six different oils for ultra-soft and nourished hair. Spritz it on as the final step in your sun-safe routine — and don’t forget a hat!

4. CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF 15 from Chemist Warehouse, $26.99

With the highly popular dermatologist-recommended skincare brand CeraVe launching in New Zealand late last year, there’s no better time than now to try CeraVe’s two-in-one SPF moisturiser. Not only will you save time and simplify your skincare routine, the fragrance-free lotion includes hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to support the skin’s barrier and draw moisture back into the skin. For extra protection, layer with an SPF foundation.

5. Ouai Leave In Conditioner from Sephora, $45

After long days spent dipping in and out of the ocean or pool, it’s vital to rehydrate your hair with a leave-in conditioner. Acting as a heat protectant, detangler, and styling spray, this Ouai conditioner can be applied on wet or dry hair to reintroduce moisture to the hair cuticle, leaving you with silky-smooth locks.

6. Tronque Rich As Croesus Firming Butter, $130

Pamper dehydrated skin with this deeply nourishing and decadent butter. It packs a punch by containing four different kinds of butter (shea, cacao, mango, and avocado), hyaluronic acid, olive squalane, and other potent ingredients! Therefore, it’s no wonder that the butter works effectively and quickly to revitalise dry and damaged skin and minimise redness from prolonged sun exposure.

Don’t forget to stay shady with a stylish hat, and take the fuss out of hitting the beach with these versatile swimwear offerings
