Reese Witherspoon’s hugely successful show Big Little Lies has been renewed for a second season, but the next book adaptation television show she’s got her eye on, might just be even better.

Hollywood’s actress-turned-mogul Reese Witherspoon and her production company Hello Sunshine—which celebrates female storytelling—is moving full steam ahead with multiple films and television shows in the pipeline, one of which will appeal to women in a big way: Little Fires Everywhere.

What is Little Fires Everywhere about?

The book-to-screen adaptation will be a limited series based on author Celeste Ng’s bestselling novel of the same name. The story is set in the progressive, rule-abiding small town of Shaker Heights, Ohio, which ultimately becomes divided by a custody battle over a Chinese-American baby.

It “explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, and the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster,” says Ng.

Known to be a voracious reader, Witherspoon appears to have a talent for identifying themes in novels that can resonate and rivet an audience when brought to life on screen. Fans of Big Little Lies will know how captivating it is to uncover the lives of people behind closed doors. Something, we suspect, will be an even more intense theme in the coming Little Fires Everywhere series.

Witherspoon took to her personal Instagram account recently to announce that Scandal lead actor, Kerry Washington, will be joining her in the series saying “[she] can’t wait to collaborate with one of [her] favourite actresses.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has “…sparked a frenzy among TV buyers,” with everyone wanting in.

What we know about the release date of Little Fires Everywhere.

The project is still ‘in development’ with no sign of an air date confirmed. What we do know, is that Little Fires Everywhere will be Washington’s follow-up to her role as Olivia Pope on ABC’s Shonda Rhimes-produced Scandal which wraps up its seven-season run in late April 2018.  So fingers crossed filming will commence shortly after that.

And while it’s been deemed a ‘limited series’, we also suspect that if it is received to the same esteem of Big Little Lies, fans will be begging for a second season, and they might just get it.
