The low down on the latest trend
We reckon freckles are super cute! But if you’ve got ’em, you probably haven’t always liked them. Would you change your tune if we told you freckles are coming back? Even those of us who aren’t #genetically #blessed, can still jump on the band wagon, too.
We’re talking freckle tattooing here which can be done as a form of microblading – to make sure your spots are more than just dots.
If you have had microblading on your brows you’ll already be in the know, but if you’re a microblading newbie, it’s the main cosmetic procedure used to create semi-permanent eyebrows that look totally real.
While the process is similar to tattooing, the results are so much more natural. Pigment is deposited under the skin using a small handtool with micro-needles. This allows colour to be ‘feathered’ across rather than inked in as a solid outline.

The faux freckle trend has had some traction overseas, but there’s no word yet on whether this process is available in New Zealand.

Cosmetic tattooing pro Rebecca Hutchinson of Auckland’s Lash Noir Ink gave us her take on the freckle tattooing trend, saying she’s not so sure it’s one to try.
“The nature of this style of permanent makeup means clients would get yucky fading (blue, orange etc),” she said, “and would require on-going touch-ups for the rest of their lives!”
“Given we spend hundreds on lovely serums and active skincare (which would destroy the results) to remove pigmentation, it’s not our cup of tea! But could look great in the short term.”
So peeps, let us know, should faux freckles fly or should the trend die?
