Each year, Mercedes-Benz cherry picks the very best in New Zealand fashion to bestow the honour of being named the ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ designer of the year.
Awarded this year to Zambesi, one of New Zealand’s longest-standing and most respected labels, the accolade not only places the brand alongside global recipients, such as Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Badgely Mischka, Dame Trelise Cooper and Kate Sylvester, but means Zambesi will have the honour of opening New Zealand Fashion Week, with their exclusive ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Zambesi’ runway show.
The ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ award is a global initiative, reserved for designers who demonstrate dedication to the use of high quality materials, innovative design and unique style – all qualities Zambesi has been demonstrating since its inception in 1979.
“Over many decades, Zambesi have proven their commitment to New Zealand fashion, and established an outstanding reputation for high quality, innovative garments. We’re absolutely thrilled to partner with a brand of their calibre,” says Ben Giffen, general manager of Mercedes-Benz New Zealand.
Zambesi has gone to extra lengths to celebrate the partnership, designing two bespoke ensembles which will be shown during their runway show.

‘Mercedes-Benz Presents Zambesi’ will feature as the debut evening show at New Zealand Fashion Week on August 28.
