The new must have accessory: Twenty-Seven Names’ power-pop eye

Two New Zealand Fashion Week shows in and we’re not entirely surprised eyes are the focus when it comes to beauty looks.

Kneufermann showcased a chic, dirty ochre brown extended cat eye, which sounds like an oxymoron until you see how it came together in a clean Parisienne way.

For Twenty-Seven Names‘ show this morning, the standout beauty detail was an opaque hot-pink eyeliner.

MAC Senior artist Kiekie Stanners, who designed the look for both shows, says that while eye looks will continue to be key for beauty throughout New Zealand Fashion Week, the unifying idea behind many of the shows will be strong pops of colour and even shocking-neon shades.

In good news for those of us that find wearing searing colour on our face daunting the placement is precise and considered – not an artistic free-for-all.

“What you’re going to see is some colour again, but very much in accents, like accessories,” Stanners says. “It could be pulling out [and matching] a colour that’s in a print, or a little bit of a clash even. That’s what’s cool about it, it’s not designed to work in with anything else, it does all the talking for itself.”

To copy the pink liner from Twenty-Seven Names’ show, created with pro-only MAC Pure White Chromaline cream mixed with MAC Process Magenta Pigment, Stanners suggests trying a MAC Chromagraphic pencil in pink and then setting with a light dusting of bright pink eyeshadow over the top.

As demonstrated at the Twenty-Seven Names show, the rest of the look is pared back and about perfect ‘real-looking’ skin.

Usually, that would be makeup-artists-speak for blended, subtle coverage created with 53 products, but Stanners insists on Twenty Seven Names and Kneufermann skin being reliant on only the lightest touch of concealer.

“We wanted the girls to look like they have just moisturised.  So we prepped skin with soothing, hydrating MAC Lightful C Softening Lotion and MAC Complete Comfort cream, then applied minimal touches of MAC Studio Waterweight Concealer just where needed, buffing in with MAC 217 Blending brush for a veil of perfection.”
