Meet the new makeup multi-tasker that beautifies and balances out tricky combination skin.
Like the recent #multi-masking trend that requires you to patchwork on multiple treatments simultaneously to address all your different facial skin needs, sometimes it feels like the same approach is needed with foundation.
Your T-Zone is oily, but your cheeks and chin are dry, you have a few emerging sun-spots, and your current go-to foundation seems to have vanished without a trace by 2pm. That shiny nose and forehead is demanding heavy use of the dog Snapchat filter, too.
What one product could possibly hope to deal with that hot mess?
You should probably meet Clinique’s new multi-tasker that brings everything back into alignment – in makeup terms, that is.
Superbalanced Silk Makeup SPF 15, $65, is a semi-matte finish foundation that sits beautifully on skin, countering oil where you’re a slick and moisturising the dry bits. The company has previously released a superbalanced foundation but this one is a silkier fluid with a modern, buildable finish that’s more comfortable to wear. If you’re one of those people who likes to just dab a bit where needed, rather than a full face, it works better for that too. When I apply it with my fingers I can get a sheerer blended finish, whereas with a brush I can cover up everything that needs it, and it’ll stay the day. My currently blemish-prone skin likes the fact it’s oil-free.
This one also has SPF that, in conjunction with your regular protective products you should be religious about applying, helps prevent sun damage and aging from UV exposure.
Given it’s warming up outside and I’ve started using fake tan, I had Rebecca, the lovely expert at Newmarket’s Smith & Caughey’s Clinique counter, match me to my newly summer-ised skin with shade 06 Silk Cream Chamois (one of 20 shades). She applied it with a dense-bristle ‘Foundation Buff Brush’ which I’m quietly now negotiating with my credit card to acquire. The featherlight tips give an amazing ‘air-brushed’ finish. Definitely worth checking out as a new alternative to the traditional paintbrush-style foundation brush, and as a combo with the Superbalanced Silk, is a winner for dry combination to oily skin types.
