There’s a beach in the Caribbean where you can swim with flamingos

Pink flamingos are the selfie stars of Instagram right now.

If you’re in the mood for a little mid-winter break, then you could do worse than planning a trip to the Caribbean to get the selfie snap of your dreams.

There’s a hotel-owned island in Aruba, just off the coast of Venezuela, where pink flamingos live all year round, Metro reports.

The 40-acre island, owned by the Renaissance Resort and Casino hotel, allows its guests to visit the tiny atoll and describes the experience as follows:  “Aruba’s only private beaches, reserved exclusively for guests of the resort. After a brief ride aboard a complimentary water taxi, your island greets you with open arms.”

A 10-minute boat ride takes guests to the island where they can frolic on a beach with the flamingos, or chill on chaise lounges on another.

While this does look like the holiday dreams are made of, there’s a seemingly darker side to this tropical paradise. According to Metro the migratory birds stay on Renaissance Island all year round.

Metro reports that there have been claims by some holidaymakers on TripAdvisor that the flamingos aren’t leaving the island as they normally would between July and March because they’ve had their wings clipped.

This hasn’t been confirmed, and The Renaissance Resort & Casino are yet to comment.

If this news puts a dint in possible plans, there are other ethical ways to get that pink flamingo selfie snap. The birds can be found on the Galapagos Islands, the Yacatan peninsula and the Island of Bonaire, living happily in their natural habitat.
