Karl Lagerfeld’s new collection was inspired by ancient Greece.
Swinging tweed shifts, gladiator sandals, and gold Grecian headbands were the standout features at this year’s Chanel 2018 cruise show.
While the show may have been staged in Paris, the transformation of the fashion house’s usual ready-to-wear location – The Grand Palais – invoked ancient Greece, complete with sandy paths, olive trees and crumbling ruins.

Titled ‘The Modernity of Antiquity’, Karl Lagerfeld’s collection took inspiration from ancient times with one-shouldered gowns, gold-accented detailing and gladiatorial accessories.
Perhaps the most standout feature though was Lagerfeld’s inspired pairing of knee-high heeled gladiator sandals in a range of eye-popping shades.
The brightly-coloured gladiators were seen on the runway in vibrant yellow, turquoise, red, black and of course, gold. Nodding to their ancient inspiration, the heels themselves were fashioned as Doric columns; adding the perfect Chanel accent.
Lagerfeld’s star modelling trifecta of Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner weren’t seen on the catwalk, possibly because the three were at this week’s Met Gala.
Closing the Chanel show in true Lagerfeld form, the creative director walked the runway with his adorable godson, eight-year-old Hudson Kroenig, the son of model and Chanel muse Brad Kroenig.
