A showcase of film, culture and glamorous gowns, here are our favourite red carpet looks from the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival is an event of importance for the film industry, being both a celebration of European and international cinema, and a place for producers, directors and actors to come together.

Each year we adore seeing the beautiful gowns on the Cannes red carpet—from Chanel and Dior to Valentino—and the stories behind them.

Here’s a selection of Cannes 2021 red carpet looks that caught our attention:

@leoniehanne

German fashionista Leonie Hanne wears a statement ballgown by Nicole + Felicia, paired with jewels by Pomellato.

We simply can’t get enough of this ethereal mint green look—as well as Hanne’s out-of-this-world red carpet wardrobe for the remainder of the festival.

@gucci

French singer-songwriter Soko glimmers in a Gucci gown with iridescent sequins, saying she “felt like a disco mermaid princess”.

Going for a natural look featuring an earth-tone palette by Gucci Beauty, Soko wore the Poudre De Beauté Mat Naturel 00 to achieve a smooth finish, and the matte finish Rouge à Lèvres Mat lipstick shade 305 ‘Ruby Firelight.’

@tinakunakey

Model Tina Kunakey wears a bold and beautiful violet cape and dress from Valentino Haute Couture SS20, paired with Messika diamonds.

The ensemble was originally debuted on the runway by Halima Aden, the first hijab-wearing supermodel, who quit the fashion industry last year.

@chanelofficial

Actress, singer, and long-time friend of Chanel since 1991, Vanessa Paradis, graces the red carpet for the film ‘Cette musique ne joue pour personne’, wearing a Chanel SS21 Ready-to-Wear custom dress.

Paradis’ daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, is also a Chanel ambassador, having made her first appearance for Chanel in 2015.

@givenchyofficial

French film and television actress Leïla Bekhti stuns in a gown-inspired suit by Givenchy Haute Couture and a bronze goddess-inspired beauty-look by L’Oréal Paris.

With tailoring taking over, is this the perfect outfit for a fashion-forward bride?

@prada

Andie Macdowell shows off her beautiful and natural grey hair colour, having let her roots grow out during last year’s lockdown. She wears a Prada satin dress embroidered with aquamarine crystals and glass fringing.

Macdowell was styled by celebrity stylist Marc Eram, who is best known for dressing Irina Shayk and Stella Maxwell.

@zuhairmuradofficial

Zuhair Murad creations dazzled at Cannes, including on actress Luma Grothe, in the form of a gold embellished Spring 2020 Couture jumpsuit.

Donning a beauty look by L’Oréal Paris, Grothe’s look was described as “a living expression of our modern vision of beauty”.

@diipakhosla

Getting ready for the red carpet, Diipa Büller-Khosa reminds us that there is no rule book to motherhood, explaining that whether or not she chooses to breastfeed should not be the subject of another’s conversation.

Büller-Khosa importantly goes on to say “online personalities are human as well, where life and feelings lay behind a screen. I kindly ask that you withhold judgmental remarks regarding any mother who is on this beautiful journey of motherhood. As much as the concern is appreciated, it is a personal journey between mother and child and should be treated as such”.

@officialspikelee

Oscar-winning director Spike Lee is the president of the Cannes jury, heading the panel tasked with voting on the prestigious Palm d’Or, the highest award at the festival.

Lee wore a double-breasted hot pink suit by Louis Vuitton and custom Nike Air Jordans gifted to Lee by Michael Jordan—making for a special red carpet moment.

@giambattistavalliparis

There’s more than meets the eye behind this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown worn by Chiara Ferragni: the embroidered flowers were made from recycled aluminium coffee capsules provided by Nespresso.

Nespresso refers to the red carpet moment as ‘Conscious Haute Couture’, explaining that “the choices we make now can inform the style of tomorrow”.

@bellahadid

Wearing a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier Couture dress with a dramatic black train from Spring 2002, Bella Hadid completed her sleek runway look with Chopard diamonds and makeup by Dior – including the dreamy combination of the iconic Rouge Dior Lipstick 100 and Lip Glow 000.
