And you’ll never guess who is responsible for her makeover.
It turns out Taylor Swift’s edgy new look is thanks to none other than the godmother of modern fashion, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Who would have thought?
Ever since the Bad Blood singer debuted her platinum cropped ‘do on Vogue’s May 2016 cover, she has continued to sport the edgy transformation – this weekend at Gigi Hadid’s 21st birthday party and again today at the Met Gala.
“We thought that we could take Taylor — who is a beautiful, beautiful girl but has been a little bit more conservative in her fashion choices — and turn her into an Hedi Slimane rock ’n’ roll girl. She was completely up for it and loved it, and is going to hopefully continue with this look,” Anna said to André Leon Talley on Vogue’s latest podcast, in reference to the unanticipated editorial.
And continue Taylor has…
Word from the front row is that the grunge platform Vetements boots from the Vogue shoot were gifted to her, and she likes them so much (read: got Anna’s hint) that she wore them to BFF Gigi’s birthday party with this glitzy 70s sequined one-shoulder number.
As a tribute to esteemed former creative director Hedi Slimane, Tay Tay showed off a sleek Saint Laurent design on the magazine’s cover. Today she wore a surprising futuristic metallic cut-away custom Louis Vuitton mini dress to ‘The Oscars of the East Coast’.
Accessories-wise, she hasn’t held back either.
Taylor teamed her Met ball frock with a pair of knee-high, strappy, leather stilettoes, which have more than divided fans and fashion critics.
“@taylorswift13 we need to have a talk, you went to the MET GALA in this?“, said a follower on Twitter.
“Taylor Swift’s Met Gala dress reminded everyone of ‘Pretty Woman” wrote Mashable. “Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
Whether you like her new look, or not, you can’t argue with talkability.
As for us? Anna’s making a muse out of the country music star yet – and we kinda like it…
