Freelance stylist Jane Mow, who is assembling the looks at The Plaza Fashion in the Park show tomorrow, chats about her favourite trends for the season ahead.

What wardrobe staples will you be wearing this winter?
My winter wardrobe staples include well-tailored pieces and classic coats layered with a crisp shirt. I’m also looking at a lot of grey.

Which items of clothing could you not live without?
A black blazer, white shirt, black tailored pants and a classic wool coat.

What are some of the key trends you are looking at for Fashion in the Park?
Tartans, gold/metallic hues, polkadots and prints – namely leopard. I’m also working with a lot of textural styles, including quilting and leather. Maximalism and individualism are making comebacks in the international fashion arena which will be reflected in the ensembles tomorrow.

Where do you look internationally for inspiration?
Key places I seek inspiration are style.com and of course, the fashion month catwalks (New York, Milan, Paris and London). Knowing what works together in terms of beauty and fashion is essential for creating a cohesive look, so I tend to keep up with fashion weeks all over the world.

What were some of your favourite looks from fashion month?
Victoria Beckham’s collections are always classic, stylish and she knows her target market. Her silhouettes work for any figure and each collection is classic and timeless. I loved the use of leather and the grey tailored blazers at Alexander Wang. I also loved Dolce & Gabbana’s baroque print – I’ve used a jersey that was inspired by that on The Plaza’s in-mall mannequins to promote the event.

What key pieces will instantly update people’s wardrobes for the colder months?
A fur piece is a great winter investment. Also printed statement pants or a bright coloured garment can really make an outfit pop – particularly against neutral shades. Add texture and edge with leather via a classic pencil or A-line skirt.

Which are your favourite shops in The Plaza?
There are several – Witchery, Max, Mirrou, Jay Jays (which is making a comeback with quirky pieces) and Amazon.

Which store do you have the most unexpected fashion finds from?
Jay Jays and Temt – which is part of Valley Girl. Each retailer has quirky pieces that I’ve pulled for Fashion in the Park.
