Ashleigh Good was discovered less than three years ago at a bus stop on Auckland’s North Shore, and has since gone on to model for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Chanel and Prada. We caught up with the successful international model, who is currently back in New Zealand to give birth to her first child.
What do you think the key to your success has been?
I work hard, I’m professional and I give 110%. It’s always better to be told to slow down than people always asking you to give more. I don’t hide my personality, I make friends with a lot of people and I include all I can. Genuine politeness goes a long way. Don’t waste time being unhappy and never bring it to work. Someone is always watching you. The only feelings you want to rub off to others are good ones.
Tell us what the rise from being discovered at a Mairangi Bay bus stop to becoming an international model has been like for you?
It’s been a great experience, one I would never change. I’ve either enjoyed or learnt from everything that has happened to me in the past three years. I have definitely grown as a person and have learnt a lot of wisdom that I hope to share with others when I can. At times I have felt like life is a dream and that I’m so lucky, which I am, but it’s not without hard work, drive and a lot of effort on my part. I should give myself more credit.
What keeps you grounded?
My family and my background. I was brought up with good morals and respect. It’s helped me to stay forever grateful and grounded. I know things can change at any moment so I don’t ever count my chickens. I stay in touch with home all the time so I never get too carried away with the crazy lifestyle.
What’s the most important thing you have learnt from working with the world’s most influential designers and photographers?
Be yourself, always.
What does your beauty routine consist of and what are some products you can’t be without?
I don’t overwork my skin. I use a hot flannel on the face to give it a nice steam before I cleanse with a little Bioderma and then I moisturise with Weleda. I suggest avoiding makeup that clogs your pores; just some mascara will do during the day. Save the heavy makeup for special occasions.
